Black Friday 2026 falls on Friday 27 November, with Cyber Monday on 30 November. Plenty of the offers are genuine, but some “discounts” are measured against a price the item rarely sold for. Here is how to tell the difference before you buy.
1. Check the price history, not just the “was” price
A big red percentage-off badge only tells you what the seller compares the price to. Price-tracking tools such as Keepa and CamelCamelCamel show how much an Amazon UK item has actually cost over recent weeks and months. If today’s “deal” price is the same as it was in October, it is not a Black Friday saving.
2. Compare the RRP with real shop prices
RRPs are sometimes set higher than anyone charges. Search the exact product name and model number and compare two or three UK retailers. If the “normal” price is much higher on one listing than everywhere else, treat the discount with caution.
3. Check who is selling it
On Amazon, look at whether the item is sold and dispatched by Amazon or by a third-party seller. Check the seller rating, and read the most recent reviews rather than just the star average.
4. Read the details, not just the title
Bundles, multipacks and “compatible with” accessories can look like the headline product. Check the size, quantity and what is actually included in the box.
5. Set price alerts and a budget
Add items you want to a wishlist or price tracker so you are alerted when the price falls. Decide your maximum price in advance, so a countdown timer does not decide it for you.
6. Allow time for delivery and returns
Order early enough for items to arrive before Christmas. When you buy online in the UK you generally have 14 days from receiving most goods to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations, but check the seller’s own returns policy as well.
Frequently asked questions
Are Black Friday deals always the lowest price of the year?
No. Some products are cheaper at other times of year, which is why price history is worth checking.
Is Cyber Monday better than Black Friday?
It varies by product and retailer. Many offers run across the whole period, so compare rather than assume.
